The Inner Path to Freedom: Shamatha and Vipassana Retreat with Geshe Tenzin Lhabsum

September 25–30, 2025

In this transformative 6-day retreat, you will explore the two foundational practices of Buddhist meditation — Shamatha (calm abiding) and Vipassana (insight) — rooted in the profound clarity of the Nalanda tradition of Indian Buddhist philosophy.
Shamatha helps us still the turbulence of the mind and develop deep inner stability and focus.
Vipassana opens the gateway to insight — the direct realization of the nature of mind, reality, and the causes of suffering and liberation.

What You Will Learn & Experience:
– Guided instructions in traditional Shamatha meditation techniques and the Four Immeasurables.
– Practical Vipassana sessions exploring and inquiring into Suffering, Interdependence, Karma, and Impermanence.
– Group discussions and personal reflection time.
– Optional one-on-one guidance with the teacher.
– Periods of noble silence and mindful living.

The Nalanda tradition represents the great synthesis of logic, philosophy, and experiential meditation practice. It is the foundation of much of Tibetan Buddhism and emphasizes compassion guided by wisdom.
Through this retreat, you’ll discover not just how to meditate, but why — uncovering the deep philosophical roots that give your practice purpose and depth, and learning how this understanding can help transform your struggles into insight and inner peace.

About the Teacher :
Geshe Tenzin Lhabsum (GomChen)
is an Indian monk from Mumbai who trained in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition of Sutra and Tantra and received his Doctorate from the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics in Dharamsala and his Geshe degree from Drepung Gomang Monastery (Karnataka).
He used to be an electronics engineer and worked as a professional sound engineer for 11 years before giving up everything in 2004 and heading for the mountains of Dharamsala. There, he spent three years studying the Tibetan language, after which he received his ordination from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and took up the 16-year study programme at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics, studying Buddhist logic, philosophy, and epistemology.
The Dalai Lama’s Office recognises him as the second non-Himalayan Indian and the first from Mumbai to complete the Doctorate in Buddhist philosophy.
Geshe-la is a visiting professor at Somaiya College in Mumbai and a dedicated teacher of meditation and Buddhist philosophy. He offers regular online classes and leads in-person retreats designed to bring ancient wisdom into modern life.
What truly sets Geshe-la’s teachings apart is his deep care for each individual. His retreats and classes include opportunities for personal one-on-one sessions, allowing students to receive direct guidance tailored to their unique path. With compassion, clarity, and unwavering commitment, Geshe-la supports students in integrating the teachings into daily life — not just as concepts, but as living, transformative practice.
