Economics As if People Mattered: Retreat with Tashi Colman

Learning from Buddhism and Shambhala

Our present economic system, fuelled by the illusion of limitless growth and our endless quest for material comfort, is destroying the earth. In the words of Ban Ki-moon, former U.N. Secretary-General: “The old model is broken. We need to create a new one.”
The good news is that we have all the knowledge, expertise, and capacity to create a sane, sustainable and equitable economy. How do we do that, what will it take, and how can the Buddhist teachings help? In particular, we will look at the framework of the “Four Dignities” from the Shambhala goal of “creating an enlightened society.” Discussions and a possible role-play exercise will be interspersed with short periods of sitting meditation.
