Shambhala Training: The Sacred Path of the Warrior

A week-long immersion in the Shambhala teachings of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche
Levels I, II & III

This training offers a path of meditation practice, rooted in the ancient wisdom of the Shambhala tradition and created for the challenges of modern, everyday life.
The Shambhala teachings are a fresh way of connecting with our innate wisdom and kindness. They explore how we can be fearless and gentle—with both ourselves and others—and how we can connect to a sense of magic in the living environment.
Through a comprehensive overview of mindfulness-awareness meditation and contemplative practices, Shambhala Training presents the profound, simple, and incredibly relevant view that when we cultivate an awake and compassionate relationship with ourselves, we are also fostering a healthy transformation in society and our world altogether

The week-long program will include both silent and guided meditation practice, mindful movement, talks, dialogue, experiential exercises, and opportunities to meet individually with meditation instructors.

It is suitable for both beginning and experienced meditators, and open to all.
It is essential to join from Day 1. However, if for any reason you are unable to stay to complete all three levels, you may leave after completing any level.

The levels at a glance:
Level I (Evening of March 30 – Afternoon of April 1)
Through the practice of meditation, we begin to glimpse that goodness—rather than confusion—is the unconditional ground of our existence. Opening to ourselves with gentleness and appreciation, we begin to see our potential as genuine and compassionate human beings.

Level II (Evening of April 1 – Afternoon of April 3)
Having experienced a taste of basic goodness in Level I, we want to learn more. Meditation practice allows us to observe how we create a cocoon of habits to mask underlying fear. We begin to appreciate that there is no fundamental obstacle to experiencing basic goodness.

Level III (Evening of April 3 – Evening of April 6)
Examining our habitual tendencies, we begin to look at our willingness to experience our life without relying on the cocoon. We begin to engage the world directly and extend the attitude of fearlessness to our activities.

Alexander deVaron began teaching in Shambhala in 1986. From 1991-1996 he lived at Karmê Chöling retreat center, working in the practice and study department. In 2010, he was appointed a Shastri (senior teacher) in Shambhala. As a householder, and full-time music teacher, he’s especially keen on how to bring the teachings into every moment of our lives. He teaches Buddhism, Shambhala Training, Shambhala Art, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and the interplay of Buddhism and Western psychology.
He has also developed courses on singing, chanting, and vocal exploration as contemplative practice. He brings a light touch to his classes, encouraging spaciousness and appreciation within which honest inquiry can take place. Alexander’s primary teachers have been Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, and Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche. He’s also grateful for the abundance of profound teachings he’s received from the many western students in these traditions.

The program will commence on the evening of Saturday, March 30 and end with a celebration.
There will be a Dharma music offering on Sunday, April 7.
