Gurdjieff’s Sacred Dances and Movements: Tabasheer Zutshi
Tabasheer encountered the work of G.I. Gurdjieff also known as ‘The Fourth Way’ in 2003 with (Late) Akash Dharmaraj who was a student of the Work in the lineage of JG Bennett, a direct student of Gurdjieff. She studied, embodied and imbibed the teachings over the next two decades with senior teachers of this tradition, integrating it with her explorations in yoga, and art practice. She began to facilitate and teach the work, with the view firmly rooted in bridging the gap between our ordinary experience of reality, and the profound sacredness of our true being. Her recent encounter with the Buddha Dharma has led to an expansion of her understanding, study and practice, bringing her past repertoire of work onto the the Buddhist path. She now offers the work with the effort to integrate her Buddhist journey with the Gurdjieff work, particularly the core teachings where the lines between the two paths dissolve. Under the gaze and infinitely generous blessings of Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, and other great teachers and Lamas from the Buddhist tradition, she aspires to share her work as an authentic creative expression of her path.
Shared by a former participant – “Your left arm, bent at the elbow, moves in an arc in front of your body. Each movement is mathematically precise, 45 degree angles in clockwise motion timed to your inner metronome. Your right arm hasn’t begun moving yet – you hold its movement in your mind. Your mind, you have been shown, is of limitless possibility. You are aware of what you cannot hold yet – movements of feet and head, chants in unison with step. You look around for a moment to orient yourself to others – the group is interdependent, a single organism. In that moment you are aware of your harmony with the organism. In that moment you have lost the position of your arm. You return, back to awareness. Back to zero.”
