Meditation Retreat: Teachings and Practices for Turbulent Times

A Ten-Day Intensive Meditation Retreat

January 7 – 16, 2027

Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche gifted us with three streams of teachings and practices that are made to measure for our modern era and turbulent times. These are his profound shamatha-vipashyana instructions, The Sadhana of Mahamudra, a powerful practice to overcome the rampant materialism of our times and the Shambhala teachings on how to create enlightened society.

Through intensive practice, teachings, and discussions, this ten-day retreat will join intimately personal exploration with insight into our modern world so that we can be of real benefit to others. The retreat includes several hours a day of shamatha-vipashyana meditation, two full silent retreat days, individual meetings with meditation instructors, videos of teachings by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, and practice in mindful speech.

The precinct of Buddha Pada itself will be the retreat boundary for the full ten days. Full attendance for all ten days and for all four sessions each day is required. Maintaining this commitment, participants will discover that these timeless teachings and practices are more urgent, applicable, and relevant than ever to our own lives and world today.

Led by students of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche.

8pm. The retreat includes sitting and walking meditation practice, sadhana practice, daily chants, pranayam, movement, dharma talks, individual meetings with meditation instructors, discussion groups, experiential exercises, and work practice.

Noble Silence and Mindful Speech
The retreat cultivates the practice of mindful speech through periods of silence, and mindful use of language, interspersed with dharma talks, discussion groups, meetings with meditation instructors, and opportunities for questions and answers.

Electronic Devices
Between formal practice sessions, continuity of mindfulness-awareness is important to support the retreat experience with minimal to zero use of electronic devices. This will help create a safe, beneficial, supportive, and distraction- free environment for myself and all participants.
