Buddhist Thought in Entrepreneurship

According to Buddhist teachings, right livelihood is crucial to one’s personal, social, and spiritual development. One of the tenets of the Noble Eightfold Paths, as taught by the Buddha is Right Livelihood. Buddhist thought in entrepreneurship adheres to the Four Noble Truths and is based on the notion of Right Livelihood. The workshop will mainly revolve around lectures and practical approach. Lectures will entail theory, descriptions and examples. Practical will entail activities in pairs and groups. Each day will have combination of both.

Objectives of the Workshop

1. Help participants understand how to use various business concepts to start and thrive in their entrepreneurial journey 2. Enable participants to apply Buddhist philosophy in their business for overall productivity 3. Enable participants to understand the customer’s journey 4.Identify the needs of the consumers and generate solutions. 5. Provide a design thinking approach to problem solving through constant iteration of prototype (using the Four Noble Truths approach) 6. Train participants to pitch their business idea to potential client, to partners and to potential equity holders

Itinerary–
Day 1: Meaning of Entrepreneurship and Problems in a particular geographical area 

Buddhist approach to Entrepreneurship / Businessman vs entrepreneurs – problems and solutions / Problems faced by the people in that particular area / Data collection and research

Day 2: Four Noble Truths Approach 

Empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test / Workshop

Day 3: Business Model Canvas

Why business model canvas / 9 elements of business model canvas

Day 4: Idea Pitching

General rules of pitching / Content, design and delivery / Elevator pitching

About the Facilitators–

Mausham Shakya is a Coach for Transformative Journeys. He has been coaching diverse professionals from Nepalese Diaspora. He has a Masters Degree on Management and Buddhist Studies. Currently he is faculty of Lotus Buddhist Academy and also a Coach for Center for Leadership and Entrepreneurship.

Nikhil Shakya is the managing director of Skill Square. He is an experienced marketing consultant and analyst with experience in diverse industries including BFIs, energy, academia and NGO. He has been involved as a trainer and coach for business models and marketing. He has a masters degree in Marketing and honoured Magna cum laude from Kathmandu University.

Sami Shakya is an experienced HR professional. Currently Ms. Shakya is associated as Human Resources Manager at Code Rush Pvt. Ltd. Prior to that she was involved in various organisations in strategic HR roles. She is also a corporate soft skill trainer.She has a masters degree in HR from Kathmandu University.
