Subject to Change: Exploring Impermanence and How We Relate to It

February 3 – 7, 2027
A Workshop with Dr. Nivedita Chalill

Change is woven into every aspect of our lives…our bodies, relationships, roles, circumstances and inner worlds. Yet, even as life continues to shift, we hold on to fixed ideas of who I am, who you are and how things are. We hold these notions with considerable tenacity and often impose them on ourselves and others, contributing to strain, disappointment and even conflict.

Rooted in Buddhist wisdom, this five-day experiential retreat invites us to explore impermanence not as an abstract idea, but as a reality we encounter every day. Impermanence is not only about loss; it is also the condition that allows for healing, learning, repair and new possibilities.

Through contemplative practices, guided reflection, experiential exercises and conversations, we will examine the changes we readily recognise, overlook or resist, and how our responses shape our habits, choices, relationships and overall well-being. The intention is to recognize and meet the changes unfolding within and around us with greater ease: to relate to them and those caught within them with understanding and compassion, and build our sense of agency by reflecting on our responses even when we are caught up in conditions we cannot fully control.
