Finding Balance: A Primer on the Three Trainings — A Workshop with Dr. Nivedita Chalill
February 9 – 13, 2026
In our fast-paced world, we often find our attention scattered, decisions being rushed, and inner steadiness dipping. Rather than tackling our challenges related to stress, relationships, or focus as separate concerns, the Buddhist path speaks of the Three Trainings: Ethical Conduct (Sīla), Mental Discipline (Samādhi), and Wisdom (Prajñā) as inseparable facets of a balanced life.
Practiced together, they form a holistic framework: beginning with ethical conduct, which steadies our relationships and behaviors; mental discipline sharpens our focus and emotional balance; and wisdom illuminates the deeper patterns that shape our thoughts and actions. Each training not only is critical but also builds upon and strengthens the others, thus creating a complete path for balance and growth.
Over five days, this workshop will explore the Three Trainings through short talks, guided reflections, and interactive exercises, with the aim of enabling you to see them not as abstract ideals or separate paths, but woven together as a holistic practice that can enable us to live with integrity, presence, and clarity.
