DESCRIPTION:Two-Day Workshop on Manga & Anime as Art\n28 March — 29 March\nLearning Objectives:\n—By the end of this workshop, participants will:\n—Gain a basic understanding of the history and evolution of manga and anime\n—Explore manga and anime as artistic and cultural expressions\n—Develop skills to analyze visual storytelling, including themes, characters, and narrative techniques\n—Reflect on the social, philosophical, and cultural messages within selected works\n—Strengthen critical thinking and group discussion skills\nDAY 1:\nIntroductory Lecture (20 minutes): An overview of the history of manga and anime, exploring their development and significance as artistic and cultural forms.\nScreening Session: Viewing selected works followed by discussions\nDAY 2:\nGroup Discussions: Participants reflect on and analyze the works viewed on Day 1.\nStructured Topics: Several discussion themes will be prepared in advance to guide conversation.\nBreakout Sessions: Participants will form small groups and engage in focused discussions.\nAbout the Facilitator:\nKazuya Horibe is a researcher studying how intelligent behavior and communication can emerge from simple systems.
