SUMMARY:Joy of Living II: Retreat with Kunsang Palmo & George Hughes
DESCRIPTION:Residential Retreat with senior Tergar Facilitators\n(In collaboration with Tergar Nalanda Foundation)\nIn Joy of Living Level 2: Opening the Heart, we see how the simple desires to be happy and free from suffering are rooted in loving-kindness and compassion, and how we can nurture these qualities and extend them to others.\nIn this 6-day retreat, we will learn how meditating on loving-kindness and compassion can open our hearts to the world around us and relax the self-centered tendencies that lead to anxiety, dissatisfaction, and suffering. Cultivating loving-kindness and compassion helps us to see the basic goodness that all beings share. By relating to others in an open-hearted way, we bring peace to the mind and develop a sense of confidence and purpose. This, in turn, naturally brings harmony to our relationships and enables us to work with challenging situations more effectively. The schedule for this workshop includes video teachings by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, short presentations on the key points of meditation practice by Tergar facilitators, as well as guided meditations and discussion.\nPrerequisites\nThis workshop is open to meditators who have previously attended a Calming the Mind: Joy of Living 1 meditation workshop/retreat or a Joy of Living 1 program online, and meet the practice requirements. If you come from another tradition and feel you may meet the pre-requisite meditation study and practice requirements, please contact us.\nKunsang Palmo\n\nOriginally from England, Tsunma Kunsang Palmo spent over a decade as an art teacher in international schools worldwide. She encountered Tibetan Buddhism during a trip to Kathmandu and chose to stay in India and Nepal and immerse herself in the dharma. She served Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo and went on to complete a three-year retreat at Sherabling Monastery under the guidance of Mingyur Rinpoche.\nKunsang is a guide for Tergar’s Joy of Living and Vajrayana Online courses, the Tergar Meditation Teacher Program, and is a faculty member at the Tergar Institute which offers experiential and applied courses in Tibetan Buddhism. In 2021 she was invited to teach in Antigua and Trinidad for Bodhicharya, founded by Ringu Tulku Rinpoche. She now divides her time between Tergar Osel Ling Monastery in Kathmandu and the Caribbean.\nGeorge Hughes\n\nBeginning his journey into meditation and the wisdom traditions as a teenager, George Hughes has been a practitioner and teacher in several traditions. He found his spiritual home with his root teacher, Mingyur Rinpoche, and has dedicated his life to sharing his profound teachings. In particular, George draws inspiration from the joy, levity, and simplicity of Rinpoche’s approach.\nGeorge has been a student of Mingyur Rinpoche and teaches Tergar’s Joy of Living and Path of Liberation curriculums around the world, including to groups in Asia, North and South America. He is also a guide for Tergar International’s Meditation Teacher Program and a faculty member at Tergar Institute.\nAdditionally, George has taught yoga, massage, and other holistic healing modalities.\nIn addition to his current role on the faculty of Tergar Institute, George has worked with Mingyur Rinpoche on a variety of projects, including guiding a series of treks through the Himalayas to help support Rinpoche’s social engagement projects. George’s passion for the dharma and meditation extends to all aspects of his life.\nFor inquiries, registration and accommodation, please email us at info@buddhapada.in ( mailto:info@buddhapada.in )\n
