DESCRIPTION:KATHAK IMMERSION: 2-Week Introductory Kathak Workshop for Adults with Annu Gupta\nINTRODUCTION TO KATHAK  \nKathak Dance is one of the most ancient form of Indian Classical Performing ArtKnown  as the dance of storytellers, Kathak comes from the word ‘Kathakaar’ – the village  minstrel who used subtle gestures and movements to enhance the dramatic element of  the narrative. This dance as it exists today is characterised by its intricate rhythm  patterns, beautiful expressional songs and rounds coupled with fast and varied  footwork. \nABOUT THE PROGRAM \n‘Kathak Immersion’ is a 2 week long journey to explore and dive into this beautiful  Indian Classical Dance Form. It gives people an exposure to learn, explore and  experience ‘Kathak’, in its pure form. It, in the form of various Workshops, helps to plant  a seed of Indian Dances in upcoming generation and in dance enthusiasts, also creating  exposure among them to expand their horizons. These sessions are for beginners which  is an amalgamation of Basic Yoga and Dance and focused on Practical & Theoretical  aspects of Kathak Dance. \nPROGRAM OBJECTIVES \n∙ To spread awareness of Indian Classical Dance Forms  \n∙ To plant seeds of Indian Classical Dance ‘Kathak’ among the dance enthusiasts ∙ To present and teach Kathak dance in its pure form  \n∙ To develop understanding of Kathak’s practical as well as theoretical aspect  ∙ To develop interest of students in learning and knowing classical dance forms  ∙ To find connections of the classical dances with our practical lives  \nADDED ADVANTAGES \n∙ Improves Concentration Power  \n∙ Nurtures creativity  \n∙ Helps in practicing mindfulness  \n∙ Builds up self-confidence  \n∙ Helps in physical development  \n∙ Develops strength and stamina \n∙ Helps in body flexibility \nCOURSE CONTENT OF THE WORKSHOP (TENTATIVE) \nPractical Sessions : \n∙ Basic Exercises \n∙ Basic footwork \n∙ Hand movements \n∙ Basic Spins \n∙ Pure bandishes of Kathak such as tihai, chakkardar, tode etc. \n∙ Vandana or Bhajan \n∙ Taal teen taal and different laya (rhythms) \n∙ Kavita \n∙ Musical Pieces of the dance form \n∙ Hast Mudras \nTheoretical Sessions: \n∙ Introduction to Classical Dance \n∙ Knowledge about classical dance forms of India \n∙ History of Kathak and its origin \n∙ Gharana Tradition in Kathak \n∙ Definition of technical things \n∙ Instruments and costumes being used in Kathak \n∙ Differentiation among Classical Dance, Folk Dance and Modern Dance \nGENERAL RULES  \n∙ All the participants are suggested to follow an appropriate dress code—\nFor Women : Kurta / Frock / Anarkali with leggings  \n For Men: Kurta Pajama / Long t-shirt – Trouser \n∙ All the sessions are mandatory to attend as every next session will be connected  to the previous one. \nLOGISTICS \nDates : October 18 – 31, 2021 (Weekends off) \nDuration each day : 1.5hr | Batch Size : 15-20 participants | Age Group : 18+ \nSCHEDULE  \nThe schedule should tentatively includes sound meditation, yoga, and Kathak’s Practical  and theoretical aspect through group activities, reflection sessions and designing the  choreography sessions. \n(NOTE : On the concluding day i.e. Oct 31, 2021, there will be a Kathak Recital by all  the participants.)\n
